Feathers from a yellow shafted flicker, a type of woodpecker. I found these last week scattered on a mossy stump next to an 18th century well. There were so many feathers that the bird itself must not have survived. I collected them in a mason jar and brought them in to work so that I could look up what kind of bird they came from - nstead of collecting dust, I think I will return them to where they came from.
